Most
Twin Cities weddings will have at least a few out-of-town guests in attendance, but brides and grooms might not have a lot of time to devote to them during the wedding weekend. At the same time, you want your guests to see the very best that the Minneapolis-St. Paul area has to offer. It’s in this spirit that we offer you a sampling of the most popular events throughout the year in the Twin Cities. Plan your
Minnesota wedding on one of these weekends, and your guests are sure to find something wonderful to do.
January
Having a winter
wedding in Minnesota? The events surrounding the
St. Paul Winter Carnival can really warm up the guests of a
St. Paul wedding. During the last ten days of January, St. Paul is transformed into a winter wonderland. Parades, concerts, sporting events, and ceremonies are part of the celebration. The Carnival can be a boon to the bride and groom as well, as the event features ice carving competitions, unique park lighting and other special touches that could make your St. Paul wedding photography truly memorable.
June
While you probably spent a lot of time choosing the DJ for your
Twin Cities wedding, you can ensure your out-of-town guests hear more great music at the
Twin Cities Jazz Festival, held each year in St. Paul. The Jazz Festival offers performances, many of them free, in parks, bars, and coffee shops throughout Lowertown in St. Paul.
July
As summertime in St. Paul and Minneapolis get hot, so do the events. In the outer metro area, guests at your Minnesota wedding could take some of the dozens of acts that play at the
10,000 Lakes Festival in
Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, a few hours north of Minneapolis. Dozens of musical acts play each day of the 4-day festival, held on 600 acres.
Also in July, the city of Minneapolis comes alive during the
Aquatennial, a 10-day celebration of the lakes that make up the city. A marathon, sandcastle-building contest, a parade, and fireworks are all part of the extensive activities your guests can witness or participate in. During this time of the year, a stay at a Minneapolis hotel in the center of the action is a must.
August
If you live in Minnesota, you know that the
Minnesota State Fair, held at the end of August, is an excellent place to sample the culture of our state. While music, history, and art are all great reasons to attend, most fairgoers focus on the cuisine. From food-on-a-stick to the finest that
Twin Cities restaurants have to offer, visitors will stay full and have fun at this legendary event.
October
The colorful leaves at
Minnesota wedding sites are not the only reason to choose an October date.
Anoka, which calls itself the Halloween Capital of the World, has a city-wide celebration the week leading up to the spooky holiday. Parades, pumpkin carving, sporting events, wine-tasting, and a house-decorating contest are some of the family-friendly events that could engage your Twin Cities wedding guests.
